Our French Language Intensive Program, or FLIP for short, is unique in Calgary!
This program is intended for new students enrolling in Grades 1 to 2 who have little or no prior exposure to the French language.
FLIP for French allows students to focus on learning French in a small class setting. Students begin the year in our regular bilingual academic stream and receive individualized support from our dedicated staff. This approach allows them to be immersed in a French-speaking environment – enabling them to close the gap with their peers and learn the language efficiently.
Prior to the start of the school year, students are assessed in English and Math in order to determine eligibility. English proficiency is required to enter the program. If the student is accepted into the Program, a differentiated program is developed to meet the student’s learning needs and styles.
Most students transition into the Lycée’s regular bilingual academic stream by the end of the school year.

Students will integrate a regular bilingual stream of the school. Therefore, they will be among their peers for all classes including music, art and phys-ed classes, as well as some English classes. Students will also socialize with all children in their grade at recess and lunch time, and are welcome to participate in our Before and After School Program.
Teachers responsible for this program are well-rounded educators with experience in teaching French as a second language.
Students begin the school year in the regular bilingual classes and are assessed periodically to make sure they are progressing accordingly. Students can only be in the program for one year.
