Choosing Lycée Calgary means opting for the unique advantages of an independent, not-for-profit educational model deeply invested in its students and community. As a Category Two Independent School in Alberta, we can maintain exceptional academic standards and focus resources directly on achieving our mission.
Dual Accountability: The Alberta Education Guarantee
While our academic program is celebrated and homologated by the French Ministry of Education (MENJS), our operations, instruction, and governance are fully accountable to Alberta Education. This dual oversight ensures we meet the highest standards, both globally and locally:
- Teaching Profession and Standards: Our teaching staff, regardless of their country of origin or initial certification, are held to the professional standards, ethics, and conduct expected of all certified teachers in Alberta.
- Learning Outcomes & Assurance: We must follow, report on, and ensure that your child meets all Alberta Learning Outcomes. We participate in the provincial Assurance Framework processes, just like any public, separate, or charter school in the province. This guarantees compliance with all mandatory provincial requirements.
- Resource Management: We adhere to strict provincial guidelines for financial reporting and the use of public grant funds, ensuring transparent and responsible management of all resources.
Governed by Community,
Driven by Mission
Lycée Calgary is a registered not-for-profit organization delivering two accredited curricula. We are governed by a local, volunteer board of directors composed of school parents. This ensures that every decision, from academics to finance, is made with the single goal of upholding the school’s mission. With accountability to our Lycée Calgary community, revenue is reinvested directly back into the school, supporting our students to get the educational resources they need, our facilities, and specialized teacher resources.
A Flexible Funding Model for Excellence
Our ability to deliver a superior, bilingual educational experience stems from a unique funding model. Tuition fees are our primary source of revenue, ensuring we can hire highly qualified teachers and maintain the specialized instruction essential for true bilingual mastery. We also receive partial public funding from Alberta Education, which supports our operational costs and ensures compliance with local standards. Finally, additional supplemental revenue is generated through camps, facility rentals, and community fundraising, which is crucial for enhancing enrichment programs, international exchanges, and facility improvements.
