Sports Teams and Athletics: Building Strength, Team Spirit, and Balance

Athletics, as extra-curricular activities, are an essential part of our educational philosophy. We prioritize academic excellence, responsible citizenship, and the physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being of every student.

Through sports, students develop confidence, teamwork, and resilience, qualities that complement our bilingual academic program and prepare them for success both on and off the field.

Competitive Sports for Grades 7–12

For students in Grades 7 and up, a variety of athletic programs and competitive team practices are offered, typically scheduled after 3:30 p.m. during weekdays. These programs provide opportunities to develop physical skills, build teamwork, and enjoy healthy competition through the Calgary Independent Schools Athletics Association (CISAA).

Students can take part in teams such as badminton, basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, and track & field. Schedules and registration details are shared directly with students and families by the Athletics Department at the start of each season.

AEFE–UNSS Sports League
in North America

Our international and national, across North America, tournaments organized through the AEFE–UNSS Sports League, are designed for students in Grade 7 and above. These athletic events give young competitors the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop strong sportsmanship, and experience high-level competition beyond their local environment. By participating in diverse sporting disciplines and meeting teams from different cultural backgrounds, students not only strengthen their physical skills but also broaden their global awareness. These enriching experiences fully support our educational vision, which promotes teamwork, resilience, curiosity, and learning through active engagement.

Athletics at the Heart
of Lycée Calgary Life

Athletics are central to our mission of supporting the balanced development of every child-mind, body, and spirit. Our sports programs help students develop:

  • Lifelong healthy habits
  • Respect for others
  • Self-discipline and leadership (refereeing, scoring)

These programs reflect our belief that physical activity nurtures both academic achievement and emotional growth.
