In France, high school is known as le lycée, and this last cycle represents the final and most specialized stage of a student’s academic journey. This rigorous three-year program (Seconde, Première, and Terminale) is specifically designed to transition students from secondary education to the demands of higher learning worldwide.
Specialization and Intellectual Independence
The lycée years pivot toward deep subject-matter expertise and high-level critical thinking, preparing students for the intellectual autonomy expected in university:
Specialized Subjects
Students move into more specialized areas of study, allowing them to focus deeply on areas that align with their strengths and future university aspirations including: mathematics, physics/chemistry, political science, biology, history/geography or economics.
High-Level Skills
Success demands and cultivates advanced skills in critical analysis, synthesis, and research. Students learn to process complex information, formulate nuanced arguments, and work with significant independence.
International experiences
In high school, we enable students to really become members of a global community with our international exchange program. Students can pick their destination and continue their studies for four to six weeks in France or an AEFE school. We also bring in international students from AEFE schools to complete part of the year, or the full school year, in Calgary.
Two Diplomas
This three-year stage is fully oriented toward success in both the Alberta diploma exams as well as achieving the Diplôme du Baccalauréat. Le Bac is an internationally renowned credential that opens doors to excellent post-secondary institutions globally.
The intensive preparation and final examinations ensure that every Lycée Calgary graduate is not only academically fluent but also possesses the resilience and intellectual maturity required to succeed in any global university environment.
