The Lycée Roadmap: Your Path to Bilingual Excellence

Choosing a school is about more than just finding a classroom; it’s about choosing your child’s future. At the Lycée international de Calgary, we offer a transformative dual-track program that merges the academic rigour and high standards of the French Ministry of Education with the local context of the Alberta Education curriculum.

Whether you are a French-speaking family or completely new to the language, here is how we help your child find their place in our community.

What is the French Education Model?

Unlike traditional immersion, we follow a consistent global curriculum used in over 600 schools worldwide, ensuring a seamless educational journey no matter where life takes you. Our students graduate with the French Baccalauréat, which is recognized by top universities in Canada, Europe or around the world. Many even grant our graduates advanced standing or university credits.

What about the Alberta Curriculum?

We are the only school in Western Canada where students earn both the French Baccalauréat and the Alberta High School Diploma. Our dual-curriculum approach fully integrates Alberta Education standards in subjects like Social Studies and English Language Arts (ELA), ensuring students develop sophisticated English proficiency. This “best of both worlds” model means your child will meet or exceed all provincial requirements while gaining an international edge.

The Language Leap: “But we don’t speak French!”

You don’t need to be a Francophone family to join us; in fact, no prior French is required for our Maternelle (Preschool/Kindergarten) programs. While older students (Grade 1+) undergo a French proficiency screening with the Principal, our youngest applicants simply participate in a friendly Saturday morning classroom session designed to assess social and academic readiness rather than language skills.

Why an Independent / private school?

As a member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), we meet the highest national standards for education. This accreditation, combined with our class sizes averaging under 20 students per class, ensures that our certified teachers can provide the individualized attention your child needs to master both languages and curricula simultaneously.

When can my child start?

In alignment with Alberta Education standards, eligibility is based on your child’s age as of December 31st of the academic year. This means children must be 3 years old to enter Petite Section (Preschool), 5 for Grande Section (Kindergarten), and 6 to begin their journey in CP (Grade 1).
