Our History: Cultivating Bilingualism And Francophone Identity In Calgary
Lycée international de Calgary stands as a pioneer of French education and academic excellence in Alberta. Our journey began in 1966 as Lycée Louis Pasteur, establishing us as one of Calgary’s most enduring independent schools. While our roots are local, our vision has always been global.
This commitment to an international standard was solidified in 1990 when we joined the AEFE network, anchoring us within a prestigious community of over 600 schools across 138 countries. This partnership enables us to blend the rigorous French Ministry of Education curriculum with Alberta Education standards—creating a dual-track program with no equivalent in the province. We are the first and only school in Alberta where graduates earn both the French Baccalauréat and the Alberta High School Diploma.
Since moving to our Marda Loop home in 2000, we have continually evolved to meet the needs of our diverse community. Our evolution was marked by our rebranding to Lycée international de Calgary in 2021 and our physical expansion in January 2025, which added eight new classrooms and a dedicated gymnasium for our youngest learners. Today, from Preschool to Grade 12, we remain dedicated to a future-proof education that combines academic rigour with an authentic multicultural experience, cultivating citizens ready to shape the future.
- Lycée international de Calgary is part of the AEFE, a network of over 600 schools in 138 countries. In Canada, there are eight schools, and we are the only one in Alberta belonging to this prestigious global network, ensuring that our French programs are comparable to those offered in France. Learn more on our What’s AEFE page.
- As a Canadian Accredited Independent School, we are part of a national network of schools that share a commitment to excellence, innovation, and a personalized approach to education. Learn more on our CAIS School page.
- Alberta Education accreditation ensures that our students receive a high-quality education that aligns with provincial curriculum guidelines.
In addition to accreditation, Lycée international de Calgary is proudly affiliated with several organizations dedicated to top-tier educational practices.
- We are a member of the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta, which supports and encourages high standards of education for Alberta’s independent schools.
- We are a member of the Association of French Schools in North America, which supports and promotes collaboration among all 60+ schools accredited by the French Ministry of Education in Canada and the United States.
- Our sports teams are affiliated with the Calgary Independent Schools Athletic Association as well as the Union Nationale du Sport Scolaire (UNSS).
Looking Ahead: Innovation, Sustainability, And Global Citizenship
