Level 1 Climbing Wall Instructor

Reporting to: Operations Manager
Essential Colleagues: Gym Teacher, Belay Supervisors

The Lycée Louis Pasteur has pushed the limits of our students for the past 50 years, and now we want you to be a part of our next big adventure! We are looking for a Level I Climbing Gym Instructor to join our team to coordinate all aspects of the Lycee Climbing Wall. We are looking for a team member with a passion for teaching and climbing. This opportunity will give you the skills and tools required to be a successful Climbing Gym Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and inviting climbing experience to climbers and guests
  • Greet, direct, and ease all climbers on to the wall
  • Create, distribute, explain, and collate waiver forms for all climbers
  • Orient and test all climbers
  • Dedication to safety with unwavering rigidity
  • Train and prepare teachers, assistants, and other Lycée staff members on best practices on using the climbing wall
  • Create and execute maintenance plans with the Operations Manager
  • Assist in creating and implementing a policy and procedure guide for all climbing wall users
  • Assist in creating and implementing maintenance schedules and follow said schedules meticulously
  • Assist in creating incident reporting procedures
  • Set climbing routes and advise management on best practices
  • Teach and instruct students of all skill levels to become competent climbers
  • Help guide climbers of all skill levels through climbing challenges
  • Lead classes of students following structured class outlines to achieve the Lycee’s pedagogical goals
  • Document and report any client concerns or equipment issues to the Operations Manager immediately
  • Adhere to an assigned schedule
  • Maintain effective relationships with parents, participants, and other groups
  • Attend staff meetings and approved training as required
  • Additional duties as assigned

Experience & Skills

Level 1 (or higher) CGI Climbing Gym Instructor Course (proof required)

  • Certified and proficient to instruct introductory and intermediate climbing courses to students and community members
  • Willing and able to work with students as young as 3 years old
  • Experience in maintaining climbing walls, equipment, and familiar with auto-belay systems
  • Skilled at top-roping and auto-belay techniques
  • Setting routes for a variety of skill levels
  • Training after-hours belayers
  • At least 2 years integrated experience in climbing gym setting
  • Familiar with climbing safety, policy, procedures, and incident reporting
  • Familiar with inspections and maintenance procedures for wall and safety components
  • Working knowledge of route setting
  • Fluid in French and English an asset
  • First Aid training certificate an asset
  • Experience working with a diverse stakeholder group will be considered an asset

Ergonomic Requirements

Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat, and belay. Be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds to appropriate destinations. Ability to climb using self-belay equipment to set climbing routes. Use senses, which enable safe supervision, such as seeing and/or hearing.

Details:

  • Wage commensurate with experience
  • 15-20 hours per week during typical office hours. Mon & Tue 10:00-5:00. Thur 1:00-5:00

Substitute Daycare Assistant

Founded in 1966, the Lycée Louis Pasteur is a non-denominational private French school. It is the only pre K to Grade 12 school in Western Canada both accredited by the French Ministry of Education and Alberta Education.

Reporting to the Child Care Coordinator, the Daycare Assistant is responsible for assisting the Maternelle teacher with the teaching, preparing and delivering subject matter to students at the Lycée. The Daycare Assistant will liaise with Maternelle teachers, coordinators and administration as necessary. Daycare Assistants have a critical role in executing the mission, vision and philosophies of Lycée Louis Pasteur.

The duties of the Daycare Assistants include but are not limited to:.

  • Assist the homeroom teacher with the preparation of teaching materials and classroom organization;
  • Supervise 3 to 5 year-old students during class, before and afterschool programs, recess and class transition;
  • Attend faculty, instructional leaders and school meetings.
  • Attend and participates in professional development;
  • Present professional development for teachers and staff;
  • Serve on curriculum and standards committee;
  • Engage in collaboration with teachers and staff;
  • Engage in the events of the community;
  • Participate in onsite or offsite French lessons as required and requested.

Required skills:

  • Strong classroom management skill;

  • Individualize instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behaviours needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classrooms;
  • Evaluate students on an ongoing basis;
  • Take a leadership role in promoting the curriculum in school and throughout the community;
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records;
  • Supervise students out of classroom as required;

Reporting to the Head of School, the Maternelle teacher is responsible for teaching, preparing and delivering subject matter to students at the Lycée. The Maternelle teacher will liaise with primary teachers, coordinators and administration as necessary. Teachers have a critical role in executing the mission, vision and philosophies of Lycée Louis Pasteur.

The duties of the Maternelle teacher include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and discuss educational program with administrators;
  • Follow the regulations in respect of Licensing, Accreditation and other Child Care Claims from Alberta Human Services;
  • Teach to students in accordance with Alberta Education standards (5YO program only);
  • Teach to students in accordance with The Minister of French Education standards;
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials;
  • Individualize instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behaviours needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classrooms;
  • Evaluate students on an ongoing basis;
  • Take a leadership role in promoting the curriculum in school and throughout the community;
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records;
  • Supervise students out of classroom as required;

Reporting to the Head of School, PE teacher is responsible for teaching, preparing and delivering subject matter to students at the Lycée. The PE teacher will liaise with secondary and primary teachers, coordinators and administration as necessary. Teachers have a critical role in executing the mission, vision and philosophies of Lycée Louis Pasteur.

The duties of the PE teacher include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and discuss educational program with administrators;
  • Teach to students Physical Education in accordance with Alberta Education standards;
  • Teach to students Physical Education in accordance with The Minister of French Education standards;
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials;
  • Individualize instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behaviours needed to achieve a functional learning environment in the classrooms;
  • Evaluate students on an ongoing basis;
  • Take a leadership role in promoting the curriculum in school and throughout the community;
  • Selects and requisitions physical education equipment; maintains required inventory records;
  • Supervise students out of classroom as required;
  • Administrator standardized Alberta Education testing and Ministry of France testing;
  • Serve on curriculum and standards committee;
  • Attend faculty, instructional leaders and school meetings;
  • Attend and participates in provincial and national associations and conferences;
